Thank You My Faithful Friends and Customers

I knew this day was coming, in fact, I have known for almost a year.

I have officially moved out of the building in Shoshone that, for nearly 2 years, has served as a place to sell my creations.

It was a chapter in my life that I will NOT soon forget.  It all came together in a matter of about
1 - 1/2 months!   It was people- Julia, Leslie, Bill and me, flying by the seat of our pants and hoping to make a difference in a small community where the town had seen better days.  It was a group of new friends seeing the potential of the town, the historic buildings and all the treasures of the past, once again bringing people together to enjoy shopping, coffee, dinner or a movie in the quaint atmosphere that is rapidly dwindling in Idaho's rural areas.

Through this endeavor of owning a business and having a storefront I have learned many lessons and made many a friend.   For all of that I want to say thank you to my friends, Julia, Leslie, Bill, Shari, Darryl and Karen for supporting and helping me through this process.  And especially thank you to my husband Wayne for buying me a trailer so that I can go "picking" in comfort and style and for always believing in every crazy thing I choose to take on...mostly things involving power tools!

The plan/project/dream of revitalizing Shoshone will continue on with new friends, volunteers, consignors and vendors.  It takes time, patience and creativity to revitalize a community and  I can't wait to come back in 5 years to see how the plan has progressed.

So to my faithful customers...THANK YOU and please continue to "shop small" (in Shoshone and wherever you may be) and to value the rural areas near and far.  Just because something is old, dilapidated, broken, or run down does not mean it has no value or potential.

So my friends...Keep Pickin' and there is always good in somethin' salvaged!

Surprise Pink Princess Dresser

One of the perks of having a salvage store, or thrift shop, is that people drop off unwanted items and often donations come in that I am able to transform.  Such was the case with this dresser.  I did not get a picture of it before, but it was just a plain 1950ish lightly stained dresser.  I recently acquired an overhead projector and drew the crowns on with a sharpie marker.

I love the little surprise of pink in and around the drawers but not on the outside.  It is a pleasant surprise and a little pop of color that this piece needed!

Medieval Headboard

I found these fantastic sconces on eBay and decided it was time to make another headboard!

I loved the knight in armor on them and I figured I could make a rustic looking, weathered headboard from some old doors.  I had two 3 panel doors that were matching, and the top panel was just the right size for the sconces! The doors were bright white with turquoise under the white.  I went ahead and sanded the doors a bit, revealing some of the turquoise here and there, then I rubbed them down with dark stain.

I actually flipped the doors upside down so that the doorknob back plates would be visible above any future pillows that may be stacked against the headboard. Originally I had intended on using 3 doors, and even had started painting the bigger, middle door a turquoise color when it occurred to me that I had a wooden gate!  SCORE!!

Just the right thing to give the feel of a castle!

Next I took 2 antique corbels and a weathered piece of lumber and made a shelf.  The whole headboard comes apart in sections.  The shelf pops off the top, as does each corbel, then the pins from the hinges pop out so each section can be moved individually.  Thank you to my husband Wayne for doing the electrical work, and making the hinges fit just right:)

(This is staged in the store where there isn't room for a mattress, and there aren't any medieval pillows, but I think you get the idea!)

Tables

It's been a crazy few months focusing on selling our home, therefore my creative time was limited.  I am finally to the point in which I have found a balance and have made sure that I am taking a couple of days a week to work on new projects.  I still hate to write, so the following are some of my latest transformations.  May you find inspiration:)

Store Reset!

Well we took a day to shift things around and add some much needed wall display area.   Since we do not own the building we are not allowed to hang things on the walls. But we had a plan.  Tom came out with his ladder, tools and knowledge so we set to work. Turns out it was much more difficult than we had hoped, but it turned out great:)   Thanks Tom!

Here are some photos of our current inventory.
